
The band offers instruction in the areas of the great highland bagpipe, snare drum, tenor drum and bass drum. The 10 week introductory course provides FREE instruction for your musical journey. All lessons are scheduled for every Thursday between 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm at the Elks Lodge on Syndicate Avenue. Practice chanters, sticks, and method books are available for purchase.

- Introductory chanter techniques leading to the bagpipe
- Marching band positions, roles and systems
- Musical theory, specific to musical interpretation of the highland bagpipe
- Practicing techniques and focuses to maximise your musical learning
- Physical co-ordination generating solid tone on the chanter
- Uniform functions and part names
You will have the opportunity to:
- Receive one-on-one and group instruction weekly
- March with a pipe band in a practice setting at the end of your course
- Meet goal oriented people from the community who want to make music
- Challenge yourself to play one of the hardest instruments in the world
- Get an insider’s view of pipe band parading logistics
- Represent your community and your country at various performance engagements both in town and abroad
- Become part of a hundred years of local heritage
THE Pipes and Drums of Thunder Bay:
- Learns and performs music for the public and occasionally competition
- Promotes Scottish heritage and acts as Thunder Bay ambassadors
- Travels to the northern United States to add pageantry to community functions/parades
- Creates concert opportunities to involve the community
